chatterjeesunit/liferay repository overview

Additional Details

Why we built this image

Setting up Liferay on Developer / QA machines or for demo environment takes time due to

  • Installation of different servers which may take time
  • Liferay Community application server
  • MySQL Server (database)
  • Elastic Search Server (if we setup up Remote elastic search server instead of an embedded one)
  • Setting up and configurations of all three servers
  • First time server startup takes time as it creates database tables and loads up sample data.

Our aim is to provide an image, that can be downloaded and run as it is. None of the above three steps should be required.

I have build this image for easy liferay setup on Developer/QA machines OR for quick setup of Liferay demo environments. This SHOULD NOT be used for any UAT/Production environments, as all three servers residing on same docker image is not a scalable model for production environments.

What will this docker image contain

  • All three servers (Liferay / MySQL/ Elastic Search) installed / setup and pre-configured.
  • MySql Server Login Credential
    • User: root
    • Password: root
    • Database: testdb
  • Default tables and sample data is pre-loaded.
  • Default Admin Login in Liferay
  • Following ports have been exposed to connect from host machine
  • 3306 - MySQL Server
  • 8080 - Liferay Application
  • 9200 - Elastic Search
  • 9300 - Elastic Search
  • 8000 - Remote Debug for Tomcat
  • User auto-created within docker
  • Username: user
  • Password: welcome

How to Use this Image

All the commands given below assume that liferay is the name of the container.

Create a new container

docker run -d --name liferay -p 8080:8080 -p 3306:3306 -p 9200:9200 -p 9300:9300 -p 8000:8000 chatterjeesunit/liferay:7.0GA5 where liferay:7.0GA5 is the image name and version

Stopping the container

docker stop liferay

Starting the container

docker start liferay

Accessing server URL from host machine
Printing application server logs

docker logs --follow liferay

Get access to bash shell of the container

docker exec -it liferay bash

Connect to MySql Server

mysql -u root -p (assuming port 3306 has been exposed)

Deploying custom OSGI Jars / Config / Properties to Liferay container

Use docker cp command to copy files to the docker container.
