The IBM WebSphere Application Server for IBM Cloud Private VM Quickstarter Community Edition is a cloud service that provisions virtual machines containing, secure Java runtimes that easily serve up everything from single, lightweight applications and microservices to large enterprise cloud deployments. Unlike a Kubernetes-based configuration of WAS as provided in the IBM Cloud Private Enterprise bundle, the WAS VM Quickstarter brings the WebSphere experience to the cloud, to leverage existing scripts, skills and to provide a supported, cloud-managed environment for hosting WebSphere applications.

The devops container is a piece of the overall service, that is called and configured by the WAS VM Quickstarter helm chart that is part of IBM Cloud Private. This and its companion docker images are part of the provisioning and management infrastructure. The WeSphere runtimes are separately entitled.

Tags:

The tags correspond to the version number of the helm chart, VRU (version, release, update). So, the helm chart will have a set of images that map to version and release (For example, if installing helm chart version 1.3.0, you will also have a set of docker images with the tag 1.3.x, and the tag 1.3 will be the latest. While there maybe multiple updates within a helm chart release, the image tag of V.R will always be the latest level of the images at that release level.
