Short Description
A containerized PDP-11 simulator running Unix V7 (with terminal multiplexer support)
Full Description

WARNING This is not an official part of the simh project. I offer this image, and the others based on it, "as is", without no commitment to keep supporting it in the future (as though I will try my best). If you find a bug, please do not report it to the official simh mantainers unless you can reproduce it in a "non containerized" environment. If you suspect the bug is related to the containerization, please open an issue in the specific github project, git://github.com/jguillaumes/dockersimh.

How to run it

  • Create a working directory to contain the OS images
  • Change to that directory
  • Issue the command:
docker run -it --name <whatever> -p 2323:2323 -v $(pwd):/machines jguillaumes/simh-pdpv7
  • Follow the instructions provided

You can run it without creating a directory for the OS images, but it is not recommended:

docker run -it --name <whatever> -p 2323:2323 -e SIMH_USE_CONTAINER=yes jguillaumes/simh-pdpv7

To rerun an existing container;

docker start <whatever> && docker attach <whatever>

Of course, substitute ´´´<whatever>´´´ for a name of your choice. You can also map the port 2323 to any other one. That port exposes a simulated asynchronous communications device (DZ11) to which you can TELNET and run multiple simultaneous sessions.

Please remember UNIX V7 is quite primitive. Don't expect to find the bells and whistles of modern unices. The only available editor is ed (no emacs vs vi fights here) and the directory layout is minimal.
