The Geosemantics Integration Service (GSIS) is an implementation of the Semantic Integration Service (SAS), the Knowledge Integration Service (KIS) and the Knowledge Base as RESTful web services. This implementation uses the Play web application framework and the Apache Jena middleware. The Play framework provides a lightweight application server for applications written in Java and Scala, a complete RESTful API supporting all standard HTTP actions, and web session management. The Scala programming language was used to implement all the endpoints for the GSIS. Apache Jena provides libraries to manipulate RDF triples, serialize and de-serialize JSON-LD and interfaces to and implementations of reasoners and rules engines. Plain JSON and JSON-LD data formats are used to encode the message body of the service calls.
