Run a small standalone Ubuntu desktop from a container. To run the desktop follow the directions below

1) Download and install TightVNC from here( http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php) to connect to your container.

2) docker pull nimkar/ubuntu-desktop

3) docker run -it --rm -p 5901:5901 --name udesktop -e USER=root nimkar/ubuntu-desktop bash -c "vncserver :1 -geometry 1280x800 -depth 24 && tail -F /root/.vnc/*.log"

On Linux or Unix Derivatives
In another shell window run the command:

docker inspect udesktop

This will give you the IP address of the container. Run TightVNC Viewer and connect to this IP @ port 5901.
vnc:<ip address>:5901

On Windows Machine:

Run VirtualBox and locate your default machine. Go to properties and Network. Click on Port Forwarding. Forward the guest port 5901 to host port 5901. Then launch TightVNC Viewer and connect to your default machine ip address @ port 5901
vnc:<ip address>:5901
