The Idea

Since my last change on ISP, they put a cable modem with a horrible Wireless, it drops lots of packets, and I didn't want to put an extra AP or wireless router and I mostlyl use wireless devices on same room so I decided to try to convert my current Pi on a small Access Point.

Raspberry Pi

  • [usb Wifi]: wlan0 as AP <-----> My Phone/notebook/tablet
  • [Ethernet]: eth0 as "WAN" <----> My ISP router

In my case I use USB stick that allows Host AP: Tenda W311M 1T1R 11n Mini USB Adapter.

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter

On host system, probably the ralink firmware should be installed so you can use , on debian/raspbian:

apt-get install firmware-ralink

Make sure your USB support AP mode:

# iw list
        Supported interface modes:
                 * IBSS
                 * managed
                 * AP
                 * AP/VLAN
                 * WDS
                 * monitor
                 * mesh point

Sample run

There are default values but most of the time you will want to put your own paraemeters, so here is the sample:

Docker Pull Command
