Linux Filesystem Lab

Description

Linux Filesystem Lab is a Flask-based web application designed to explore and manipulate the Linux filesystem from a web browser. The application allows users to inspect directories, view ls -la-style listings, and create files with specified names, extensions, and content. By default, the app starts in the home directory of the container user.

Features

  • ls -la-style directory listing with permissions, owner, group, size, and name
  • File creation with customizable filename, extension, and content
  • Persistent split layout: "Directory listing" on the left, "Create file" form on the right
  • Retro grey + navy theme resembling classic Linux windowing environments

Endpoints

GET /

  • Main page displaying the directory listing and file creation form

POST /

  • Submits a directory path to inspect
  • Submits file creation requests with filename, extension, and content

Configuration

The application listens on port 5000 by default.

You can override the port using the PORT environment variable.

Container Usage

If running in a container, expose and map the chosen port accordingly.

Example:

docker run -p 5000:5000 --name linux-fs-lab 22skowron/linux-fs-lab

Once the application is running, you can open it in your browser at http://127.0.0.1:5000

Note

ℹ️ This application is intended for learning purposes and experimenting with containers and Kubernetes.
