ADCIRC

License: LGPL v3

ADCIRC is a system of computer programs for solving time dependent, free surface circulation and transport problems in two and three dimensions. These programs utilize the finite element method in space allowing the use of highly flexible, unstructured grids. Typical ADCIRC applications have included:

  • Prediction of storm surge and flooding
  • Modeling tides and wind driven circulation
  • Larval transport studies
  • Near shore marine operations
  • Dredging feasibility and material disposal studies

ADCIRC has been used around the world for various studies, including those conducted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and many others.

Source code for the ADCIRC model is available here: https://github.com/adcirc/adcirc

Purpose

These containers are meant for new users to quickly get a version of the ADCIRC model running and they prefer ease of distribution rather than pursuing ultimate performance. For example, it would be quite easy to compile a version of the code target for a specific CPU and particular HPC environment's MPI implementation, however, that would not make the containers widely distributable.

Versioning

Release versions are pushed to this repository when new releases are published within the GitHub repository. Versions of the form vXX.YY.ZZ are the preferred versions of the containers to use. However, the latest code from the main branch of the repository is made available under the tag "latest".

Use with Singularity

You can use these containers with singularity, however, you may need to manually run source /entrypoint.sh in order to have the correct environment variables set.
