This is an extension of the well-known pdftotext tool for the extraction of text from PDF files. Features include:

• Much better quality with respect to getting spaces between words right, grouping text into paragraphs, and reading order
• Optionally outputs formatting information for each text block (for example: whether a line is all in bold)
• Optionally outputs a semantic role for each text block (for example: title, author info, abstract, heading, paragraph, table, figure, formula)
