A server needs to be created in order for pidgin to work (recommendation: use openfire server). To display pidgin in Ubuntu run the following command:
docker run -i -t --net=host -e DISPLAY -v /tmp/.X11-unix <container ID/Name> bash
Also works as: docker run -i -t --net=host -e DISPLAY=:0 -v /tmp/.X11-unix <container ID/Name> bash
In Windows: docker run --rm -ti -e DISPLAY=host.docker.internal:0 <container ID/Name> bash
After being inside of the container type 'pidgin' and wait for pidgin to pop up.
