almondbranch/vscode_ruby repository overview

Vscode with ruby installed (bundler, rubocop, and rspec gems included)

Description

Run Visual Studio Code (vscode) and retain configuration settings and installed extensions along with an installed version of Ruby. Also the vscode icon is properly displayed in the unity launcher which is an issue with some of the other vscode images out there.

Supported Tags

  • latest (vscode 1.12.2)

Quick Reference

Step 1: Create volumes to retain configuration settings and installed extensions

docker volume create vscode_config docker volume create vscode_extensions

Step 2: Run a container

docker run --rm -e DISPLAY -v /tmp/.X11-unix:/tmp/.X11-unix -v $HOME/.Xauthority:/home/developer/.Xauthority -v vscode_config:/home/developer/.config/code-oss-dev -v vscode_extensions:/home/developer/extensions_vscode almondbranch/vscode_ruby

Step 3 (Optional): Add a volume for the code that you want to work on. I usually add another volume to the docker run command from Step 2 that looks like this

-v $HOME/code:/home/developer/code
