anonymouz/dotnet-chromium-base repository overview

🐳 .NET 8 + Chromium Base Image

A production-ready, pre-configured base image combining the official .NET 8 ASP.NET runtime with headless Chromium.

Built specifically for .NET applications that rely on PuppeteerSharp, Playwright, or Selenium to generate PDFs, take screenshots, or scrape web pages inside Docker containers.

Why use this image?

  1. Faster Application Builds: No need to run apt-get install chromium during your main app build. Your CI/CD pipelines will be significantly faster.
  2. Stability & Reliability: Debian repositories remove older Chromium packages when security updates are released, which can break your Dockerfile. This image locks the dependencies and acts as a safe, immutable layer.
  3. Automated Testing: Every build of this image is automatically tested via GitHub Actions. It is only pushed to Docker Hub if Chromium successfully launches and generates a valid PDF.

What's inside?

  • mcr.microsoft.com/dotnet/aspnet:8.0 (Debian-based)
  • chromium & chromium-common
  • Essential system libraries: libicu72, librdkafka1, libexif12, udev, tzdata, curl, ca-certificates
  • Pre-configured environment variables:
    • CHROMIUM_EXECUTABLE=/usr/bin/chromium
    • DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_INVARIANT=false

Updates

This image is automatically rebuilt and tested nightly to pull in the latest OS security patches and Chromium updates.
