Open edX is an open source MOOC platform that powers www.edx.org and hundreds of other online learning sites around the world.
This image provides the LMS (course delivery platform), CMS (Studio for authoring courses) and forum. It was created using Appsembler's fork of the edX's configuration repo and is similar to their Devstack release - basically a stripped down release of the full edX application.
The image was provisioned using a Dockerfile as described here.
This image is beta quality and is not recommended for production use!

Try Appsembler's Open edX test-drive service where you can get your own Open edX site in 30 seconds.
You can start the Open edX stack running in a Docker container using
docker run -d appsembler/edx-lite-cypress
The above command may be sufficient if you just want to get an instance of Open edX running locally for development purposes. To allow users to register in courses and receive email, you'll need to create a Mandrill account and set a few environment variables in the container. You may also want to expose the container's ports on the host so that the LMS and CMS are accessible from the public Internet:
docker run -d -p 0.0.0.0:80:80 -p 0.0.0.0:18010:18010 -e MANDRILL_API_KEY=xyz -e EDX_LMS_BASE=5.5.5.5:80 -e EDX_CMS_BASE=5.5.5.5:18010
EDX_LMS_BASE should be set to the public address of the LMS, which can be a URL or the host IP address and port. Similarly, EDX_CMS_BASE should be set to the public address of the CMS.
