Nginx VProfile Project Proxy

Overview

This Docker image sets up an Nginx server configured to serve as a reverse proxy for the VProfile application. The default Nginx configuration is replaced with a custom configuration provided in the nginvproapp.conf file. This image ensures a streamlined and efficient reverse proxy setup for the VProfile project or any other web application.

Image Details

  • Author: Ardhendu Shekhar
  • Project: Vprofile-Containerization
  • Base Image: nginx
  • Configuration File: nginvproapp.conf
  • Port Exposed: 80

Usage

Pulling the Image

To pull the Docker image from DockerHub:

docker pull your-dockerhub-username/nginx-vprofile-proxy
Running the Container

To run the Docker container:

docker run -d -p 80:80 your-dockerhub-username/nginx-vprofile-proxy

This command will start a container with Nginx serving as a reverse proxy, accessible at http://localhost.

Docker Compose

For integrating this Nginx reverse proxy with other services, you can use Docker Compose. Below is an example docker-compose.yml:

version: '3'
services:
  vproweb:
    image: ardhendushekhar/vprofileweb:latest
    ports:
      - "80:80"
    depends_on:
      - vprofile

  vproapp:
    image: ardhendushekhar/vprofileapp:latest
    ports:
      - "8080:8080"

Run with:

docker-compose up -d
Custom Configuration

To use your own custom Nginx configuration, you can create a new configuration file and build the Docker image locally:

  1. Create a file named nginvproapp.conf with your custom Nginx configuration.

  2. Create a Dockerfile:

    FROM nginx

    RUN rm -rf /etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf
    COPY nginvproapp.conf /etc/nginx/conf.d/vproapp.conf

    EXPOSE 80

  3. Build the Docker image:

    docker build -t ardhendushekhar/vprofileweb:latest .

  4. Run the Docker container:

    docker run -d -p 80:80 ardhendushekhar/vprofileweb:latest

Configuration File Example

Below is an example of what nginvproapp.conf might look like for a reverse proxy setup:

upstream vproapp {
 server vproapp:8080;
}
server {
  listen 80;
location / {
  proxy_pass http://vproapp;
}
}

This configuration directs traffic from Nginx to a backend service running on http://vprofile:8080.

Contributing

If you wish to contribute to this project, please follow these steps:

  1. Fork the repository.
  2. Create a feature branch (git checkout -b feature/YourFeature).
  3. Commit your changes (git commit -am 'Add some feature').
  4. Push to the branch (git push origin feature/YourFeature).
  5. Create a new Pull Request.

This Docker image simplifies the deployment of an Nginx reverse proxy, providing a quick and reliable setup for forwarding traffic to your web application. Enjoy the benefits of a robust and efficient proxy server with ease!
