Bundled with the project is an HTTP server that implements\nthe\n[AWS Lambda Invoke API](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/API_Invoke.html)\nand is able to serve any function that is compatible with the\n[lambda go sdk](https://github.com/aws/aws-lambda-go).\n\nGenerally speaking, if you want to use AWS Lambda then you should probably use\nAWS Lambda rather this simulator. This project is specialized and was conceived\nto enable:\n\n- Teams who want to adopt a serverless style of development but without\n full access to a serverless/FaaS provider such as those who are developing\n on bare metal or private cloud infrastructures.\n\n- Teams who are ready to migrate away from AWS Lambda but aren't ready to\n rewrite large portions of existing code such as those who are either changing\n cloud providers or moving to EC2 in order to fine-tune the performance\n characteristics of their runtimes.\n\nIf you're looking for a local development tool that supports AWS Lambda then you\nwould likely be better served by using tools like\n[docker-lambda](https://github.com/lambci/docker-lambda) and\n[AWS SAM Local](https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-aws-sam-local-beta-build-and-test-serverless-applications-locally/).\n\n\n## Quick Start\n\nStart by defining a normal lambda function. Here we\n \t// use the environment variable source.\n \tsource, err := settings.NewEnvSource(os.Environ())\n\tif err != nil {\n\t\tpanic(err.Error())\n\t}\n\t// Create a new instance of the runtime using the given source for\n\t// configuration values and the given static mapping of Lambda functions.\n\trt, err := serverfull.NewStatic(ctx, source, handlers)\n\tif err != nil {\n\t\tpanic(err.Error())\n\t}\n\tif err := rt.Run(); err != nil {\n\t\tpanic(err.Error())\n\t}\n}\n```\n\nIf you run this code then you can make a request to invoke the `hello` function and\nsee the result.\n\n```sh\ncurl --request POST localhost:8080/2015-03-31/functions/hello/invocations\n```\n\nAlternatively, the AWS CLI may be used as well:\n\n```sh\naws lambda invoke \\\n\t--endpoint-url=\"http://localhost:8080\" \\\n\t--function-name=\"hello\" \\\n output.txt && \\\n cat output.txt && \\\n rm output.txt\n```\n\n\n## Features And Limitations\n\nThe `X-Amz-Invocation-Type` header can be used, as described in the actual\n[AWS Lambda Invoke API](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/API_Invoke.html),\nto alter the execution behavior. The only aspects of the API that are not\nsimulated yet are:\n\n- The \"Tail\" option for the LogType header does not cause the\n response to include partial logs.\n\n- The \"Qualifier\" parameter is currently ignored and the reported\n execution version is always \"latest\".\n\n- The \"Function-Error\" header is always \"Unhandled\" in the event\n of an exception.\n\nThe API is compatible enough with AWS Lambda that the AWS CLI, as well\nas all AWS SDKs that support Lambda features, can be used after adjusting\nthe endpoint value.\n\nCurrently, this project performs no scheduling or orchestration of Lambda functions\nacross multiple hosts. Instead it relies on a static mapping of Lambda functions that\nare exposed by each host running the service. There are no plans to add dynamic\nscheduling at this time.\n\n\n## Configuration\n\nThis project uses [settings](https://github.com/asecurityteam/settings) for managing\nconfiguration values and [runhttp](https://github.com/asecurityteam/runhttp) to\nmanage the runtime behaviors such as logs, metrics, and shutdown signaling. All of\nthe configuration described in the `runhttp` README is valid with the notable exception\nthat this project adds a `serverfull` path prefix to all lookups. This means where\n`runhttp` will have a `RUNTIME_LOGGING_LEVEL` variable then this project will have\na `SERVERFULL_RUNTIME_LOGGING_LEVEL` variable.\n\nFor more advanced changes we recommend you use the `NewRouter` and `NewStatic` methods\nas examples of how the system is composed. To add features such as authentication,\nadditional metrics, retries, or other features suitable as middleware we recommend\nyou use a project like [transportd](https://github.com/asecurityteam/transportd) or\na more in-depth \"service-mesh\" type of proxy rather than modifying this project\ndirectly.\n\n\n## Status\n\nThis project is in incubation which means we are not yet operating this tool in production\nand the interfaces are subject to change.\n\n\n## Contributing\n\n\n### Building And Testing\n\nWe publish a docker image called [SDCLI](https://github.com/asecurityteam/sdcli) that\nbundles all of our build dependencies. It is used by the included Makefile to help make\nbuilding and testing a bit easier.
