astronomerinc/ap-airflow repository overview

Description

Docker images for Astronomer Certified, an open-source distribution of Apache Airflow. New versions of this image will be thoroughly tested by the Astronomer team and run through an additional end-to-end automated testing suite. This image is both used in the Astronomer Platform and freely available as standalone software, with or without SLA-backed commercial support from Astronomer's global Airflow team.

Tags

New Astronomer Certified images will be released with each corresponding version of Airflow. Typically we'll maintain an image for each major and minor version of Airflow, quickly upgrading to patch releases as they become available. To support this, we support a matrix of docker tags. The images are tagged with the format astronomerinc/ap-airflow:$AIRFLOW_VERSION-$BASE_IMAGE. In special cases, you will be able to apply an optional $BUILD_NUMBER to the end of that string if you would like to get specific CVE patches or bug fixes that we've included in a new build of an image.

Examples

Here are a few examples of our tagging system:

In addition to our production images, we are also routinely pushing up development (master), alpha and rc tags as we move through the development lifefycle of a release. Tags containing master, alpha.X, or rc.X, should be considered unstable and not ready for production usage, unless you understand the risks.

We also push up onbuild versions of our Airflow image. This version adds some ONBUILD directives to install OS and Python packages automatically. The astro CLI will scaffold out a Dockerfile using this tag by default for a smooth out of the box experience. For advanced use-cases, users can drop -onbuild from their Dockerfile and take over these functions themselves.
