⁠base-jupyter-notebook

⁠Description

This Docker image is used to create jupyterlab with ubuntu latest base image and will have a working directory named "jupyterhub-singleuser."

This Docker image is also available on Dockerhub⁠

The base-jupyter-notebook docker image is built on

1. Ubuntu latest version as the base image
2. Having Miniconda installed
3. JupyterLab installed

⁠How to use/test

To download this Docker image to your local Linux machine use the docker pull this command will pull the image from Dockerhub:

docker pull bakinam/base-jupyter-notebook:0.01

Or

To run this docker image use the docker run command directly, and this command will also pull and run the image directly:

docker run -p 8887:8888 bakinam/base-jupyter-notebook:0.01

To open the Jupyter notebook, you need to copy the provided URL from running the previous command and map the port in the URL from 8888 to 8887 to avoid having a token.

⁠Building the base-notebook-image

If you would like to modify this base-jupyter-notebook image and build your image, you would need to:

1. clone this repo:

git clone https://github.com/Dewberry/fcast-docker.git

1. Navigate into the base-notebook-image directory

 cd base-jupyter-notebook

1. Edit the Dockerfile using your preferred editor (e.g., nano Dockerfile) then build a new image using the docker build command to tag the image use -t then type the desired name and use : to specify the version(otherwise it will have "latest" as the image version) . is used to specify the location of the Dockerfile that will be used to build the image:

Example of the build command:

Docker build -t NameOfImage:Tag .

docker build -t base-jupyter-notebook:1 .

Once the docker image is built, you can run the Jupyter notebook using:

docker run -p 8887:8888 bakinam/base-jupyter-notebook:0.01

Or JupyterLab using:

 docker run --rm -p 8888:8888 -p 4040:4040 -e JUPYTER_ENABLE_LAB=yes -v ~:/home/jovyan/work bakinam/base-jupyter-notebook:0.01 

This command will open jupyterLab and will create a directory called "work."

⁠Releasing

Building and releasing new image versions is done manually for now. As this is a private repo. Once this repo is made public, we can link this repo with Dockerfile and automate building new images versions once the Dockerfile is updated.
