Krane is an open-source project inspired by now⁠, exoframe⁠, render⁠, dokku⁠, to easily deploy dockerized apps to the cloud.

It provides the framework that can be installed on an inexpensive linux server on any cloud. The cli⁠ is how you communicate to krane and manage your deployments.

Why: Provide an open-source solution for deploying and managing containerized applications in an affordable, scalable, self-hosted way.

Alternative solutions:

• now⁠: No longer maintained, changed to Vercel.
• snow⁠: Unmaintained, k8s, cheapest DO hosting $14
• render⁠: Not self-hosted, $7 per app, very mature
• dokku⁠: Mini Heroku, extensive setup, tons of functionality
• exoframe⁠: Maintained, easy to setup, runs on any server
