kube-utils-container-logrotate

Is a cluster-level logging management. Designed to rotate the container logs running inside the Kubernetes Ecosystem. This addon should run as a DaemonSet, which means for every worker node, it will be launched as a service/daemon that runs in a container.

Kubernetes DaemonSet: https://kubernetes.io/docs/admin/daemons/

UPDATE: 1.0.1 released. Updated the base image to Ubuntu Slim 0.6 and S6 Overlay init script 1.19.1.1 (https://github.com/just-containers/s6-overlay) The based image of the application image is ubuntu slim that is based on version 16.04 LTS

Some configurations that can be defined in the DaemonSet YAML config:

LOGROTATE_ARGS | -v MAXSIZE | 10M ROTATE | 3

Volume Mounts where container logs located:

  • /var/log
  • /var/lib/docker/containers *default location
  • /mnt/sda1

Namespace: kube-system

Resources: Limits: Memory: 10Mi Requests: CPU: 10m Memory: 10Mi

*Note: Any change here should be accompanied by a proportional change in CPU requests of other per-node add-ons (e.g. kube-proxy).

Logrotate configuration of the Container Logs:

/var/lib/docker/containers//-json.log { rotate <ROTATE | 3> copytruncate missingok notifempty compress maxsize <MAXSIZE | 10M> daily create 0644 root root }
