bitbynik/xv6-public repository overview

Run xv6-public in an ARM-Optimized Docker Container

This Docker image provides a ready-to-use development environment for MIT’s xv6-public operating system, specifically optimized for ARM architecture (Apple Silicon). You can easily mount your local directory for persistent access to xv6 files, clone the official repository, and build/run xv6 with QEMU-all inside the container.

Quick Start

1. Run the Docker Container

Replace <container_name> with your preferred container name and <path_to_local_xv6_directory> with the absolute path to your local directory where you want to access xv6 files:

docker run –name <container_name> -v <path_to_local_xv6_directory>:/xv6 -it bitbynik/xv6-public

This command starts a new container, mounting your local directory to /xv6 inside the container for easy file access and persistence.

2. Inside the Container Shell

Once inside the container shell, run:

git clone https://github.com/mit-pdos/xv6-public
 ~/xv6
make qemu-nox

This clones the official xv6-public repository and builds/launches xv6 using QEMU.
