bitinggoatsoft/lanspeed repository overview

LANSpeed — Docker Image

LANSpeed is a fast, cross-platform LAN speed tester by BitingGoat Software.
This image runs the server daemon — install it on your NAS or any Linux host, then test from the LANSpeed app on Windows, macOS, Linux, or Android.

Quick Start

services:
  lanspeed:
    image: bitinggoatsoft/lanspeed:latest
    restart: unless-stopped
    network_mode: host # REQUIRED for mDNS auto-discovery
    environment:
      - LANSPEED_PORT=15201 # speed test port (TCP)
      - LANSPEED_WEB_PORT=15280 # web status UI port (HTTP)
      - LANSPEED_MDNS=1 # set to 0 to disable mDNS
docker compose up -d
# Web UI: http://<your-nas-ip>:15280
One-liner
docker run -d --name lanspeed --network host \
  --restart unless-stopped \
  -e LANSPEED_PORT=15201 \
  -e LANSPEED_WEB_PORT=15280 \
  bitinggoatsoft/lanspeed:latest

Ports

PortPurposeEnv var
15201Speed test server (TCP)LANSPEED_PORT
15280Web status UI (HTTP)LANSPEED_WEB_PORT

Environment Variables

VariableDefaultDescription
LANSPEED_PORT15201TCP port for speed test connections
LANSPEED_WEB_PORT15280HTTP port for the web status UI
LANSPEED_MDNS1Enable mDNS auto-discovery (0 to disable)
RUST_LOGinfoLog level (debug, info, warn, error)

⚠ Network Mode: Host Required for Auto-Discovery

mDNS uses multicast packets (224.0.0.251) which cannot cross NAT.
If you run the container in bridge/NAT mode, phones and desktops on your LAN will not auto-discover the server.

Fix: use network_mode: host (or "Host" in your NAS container manager GUI).

Alternative: disable mDNS (LANSPEED_MDNS=0) and use Direct Connect in the LANSpeed app — enter your NAS IP and port 15201 manually.

QNAP / Synology

In Container Station (QNAP) or Docker (Synology):

  1. Create a new container from bitinggoatsoft/lanspeed:latest
  2. Set Network Mode → Host
  3. Add environment variables: LANSPEED_PORT=15201, LANSPEED_WEB_PORT=15280, LANSPEED_MDNS=1
  4. Start the container
  5. Open http://<your-nas-ip>:15280 to see the web UI

Architecture

The image is built from a multi-stage Rust build on Alpine and runs from scratch — no OS layer, minimal attack surface (~5 MB compressed).

Supported platforms: linux/amd64, linux/arm64
