Warden federation node — release a decryption key only when an on-chain condition holds

bytesbrains/warden repository overview

Warden is a drand-derived threshold conditional-decryption network: a federation of independent nodes hold shares of a master key and release a per-item decryption key only when an on-chain condition becomes true (a deadline passes, a contract flips a flag, an event fires). No single node can release early. This image runs one federation node (wardend).

It's a general-purpose primitive — any app needing "decrypt only when this on-chain condition holds" can build a federation on it.

⚠️ Experimental — Phase-0 PoC. On a single-operator test federation the timing guarantee is not security. Do not use for real secrets. Treat as preview until there's a production federation and an audit.

Run

A node needs its key share, the federation descriptor, and an RPC endpoint to watch. The simplest way to bring up a local PoC federation is the docker-compose.yml in the repo (3 nodes):

git clone https://github.com/bytesbrains/warden && cd warden
docker compose up --build

Node config, the trusted-dealer ceremony, and the condition format are documented in
the repo
(docs/, 06-operator-manual.md).
