⁠Dash button container for Slack presence

WARNING: This container can only be used when running on the docker host network layer, as it basically scans ARP/UDP packets to find out when your Dash button is registering on your local network.

It consists in a basic script doing a HTTP Call when the button with the specified mac address is seen on the network. The HTTP call allows to post a temporary status change to Slack API

⁠Building image

⁠For a RPI (ARMHF)

⁠Finding your dash button

The first step is to find your button on your local network, you will need to get its mac address. The first configurations step of the Dash button through Amazon mobile app must be completed.

Press the dash button, it will print out a lot of records (depending on the size of your network), pay attention to the lines mentionning "Amazon" or "unknown" (starting with 34:d2), the MAC Address is at the beginning of the line separated by ":". Write it down, and go to the next step.

⁠Slack setup

At first you will need to get your Slack API token. This basic implementation uses Slack Legacy API token which you can generate on the legacy token page⁠. Generate one for the team where you want your dash button to post a status update.

⁠Running a container per button

Copy and change the content of the sample-slack.env file to your liking (I tend to use the brand labeled on the button). Then edit the settings to your liking :

• TOKEN with the previously generated token
• MSG with the status message you want to set
• EMOTICON with the emoji code you want to use
• DURATION for the duration (in minutes) of your "dash" status, you will automatically be set back without custom status afterwards

⁠Running all containers

If you are, like me, using a lot of buttons, it can be cumbersome to start them all at once. A small run.sh script exists in this repository to allow you to launch a container per .env file found in the current directory.

It drops existing ones (if any) before starting any new one (and only targets the ones with an existing .env file.
