⁠hello-world

This is a tiny Docker image that gives http responses on a designated port (default: 8000).

While there are plenty of scenarios to customize this, my goal is to keep this a small as possible to reduce time on feedback loops and have speedier deploys.

This image is automatically updated monthly to ensure security patches are included from upstream.

⁠Tags

• latest
  • Rolling image containing latest features & security patches. If unsure, use this one.
• x.y.z; eg 1.0.0
  • Specific version of the app; updated monthly to include upstream security patches
• x.y.z-yyyymmdd
  • Static tag for the specific version & build date

⁠Sample Usage

⁠Starting a web server on port 80

docker run -d --rm --name web-hello-world -p 80:8000 chadfrownfelter/hello-world

⁠Running the container on a port other than default

docker run -d --rm --name web-hello-world -e PORT=3000 -p 80:3000 chadfrownfelter/hello-world

⁠Running the container with custom URL paths

NOTE: This essentially allows custom URL paths to return 200 instead of 404 (eg. health check paths)

docker run -d --rm --name web-hello-world -e REDIRECT_PATHS="/url1, /url2" -p 80:3000 chadfrownfelter/hello-world
