Now has security upgrade to MYSQL 5.7.17 This was built and tested on Windows 2016 server. I built it on AWS and pulled it on azure. It is based on microsoft/windows-servercore. You need to create your data directory. md c:\mysql\data The slashes with Windows Docker are a bit confusing, so please pay attention to the example, as it works "as is"

from the PowerShell prompt mysqld --initialize-insecure This creates the DB files and user root with empty password If you get an error that files exist, just go into Windows File Manager where you shared the volume and delete the files. then from the Powershell Promot run start-service mysql You can now login mysql -u root and start to do your Development with the Database.

I did this because Windows doesn't upgrade as seemelesly as most Linux build that use yum are apt

Please critique. While writing this I thought of an improvement. You can do --initialize after reading mysql docs about finding the root password
