⁠cit595-project3-dev

A dockerized container for developing 595 project3 autograder.

⁠Quick Note about Permissions

You need to be in the cis548 organisation in DockerHub⁠. You also need to be an owner or admin.

I believe you may need to be logged into Docker locally as well. You can do this in the commandline.

docker login -u <username> -p <password>

Or by signing in with Docker Desktop.

⁠Getting the latest image

Pull the latest image:

docker pull cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:latest

⁠Starting a container

⁠Via Command Line

Once you have the latest image, start a new container. This will mount the current directory onto /home/cit595. Therefore, you should start the container from the 595-project3-autograder root directory (or git clone the repository to this directory, haven't decided how to do it yet).

docker run -it -v $(pwd):/home/cit595 cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:latest

⁠Via VSCode

I haven't figured this out yet.

⁠Updating the image

We use docker buildx to generate images for AMD64 and ARM64 CPUs. You can run the build-images.sh script to automate this process. You only need to do this if you're installing new applications. I think.

./build-images.sh

1. Create a new builder. The default docker builder does not support multi-platform compiling, so we need to create a new one. Here we name it mybuilder.

docker buildx create --name mybuilder

1. Set mybuilder as the new default builder and double-check the change is in effect.

docker buildx use mybuilder
docker buildx inspect --bootstrap

1. Build and push the images to cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev. To push images to the Docker Hub reposiotry, make sure you have the right permissons to the repo (i.e. you are in the cis548 organisation and potentially in the owners group).

docker buildx build . --platform=linux/amd64,linux/arm64/v8 -t cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:latest --push

1. Once the image is built, you will need to tag it with the latest GitHub release and push that tag as well.

Example:

docker tag cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:latest cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:<GitHub release>

docker image push cis548/595-project3-autograder-dev:<GitHub Release>
