codesnipes/ansyslic repository overview

ANSYS License Server as Container

A License Server that supports ANSYS, running in a Docker container. This setup is NOT recommended or supported by ANSYS and mainly for testing, development and troubleshoot cases. Please do not use it in production environments, or on your own Risk. If you do, check the license compliance with your ANSYS license vendor, and evaluate a potential license violation if you run the license server in a container.

Check my GitHub Repository to find more details about the container.

Usage

Run the container on your local system:

docker container run --name ansyslic \
        --hostname ansyslic \
        --publish 1084:1084 \
        --publish 1055:10554 \
        --publish 2325:2325 \
        --publish 49921:49921 \
        --volume ansyslic_licensefile:/ansys_inc/shared_files/licensing/license_files/ \
        codesnipes/ansyslic:latest

If you like to keep the container up after you reboot your system, add --always restart to the run command.

After a successful start, you can test the container by browsing to http://localhost:1084 and check the License Manager Center.

Communication Ports with the License Server

  • 1055 - FlexLM
  • 2325 - FlexLM
  • 1084 - License Manager Center Web Interface
  • 49921 - Vendor-Port* example, you can set the port in the license file.

*check the Ansys License Documentation.

Volume (for license file)

It might be helpful if you store the license file in a persistent place (volume). The example above shows to use a volume to store it. You can also go for a bind-mount and add the file as example:

 --volume ${pwd}/ansyslmd.lic:/ansys_inc/shared_files/licensing/license_files/ansyslmd.lic
