Debian-based Nmap with vulscan scripts for quick vulnerability scanning.
807
Overview
This container bundles Nmap (the well-known network scanning and security auditing tool) with the vulscan repository of NSE scripts. That means you can easily run targeted vulnerability scans against services to identify potential CVEs and other security issues—all from a self-contained Docker environment.
Key Features
Debian Latest: Lightweight, up-to-date base image. Nmap 7.93 (or whichever version you’ve installed). vulscan scripts pre-installed in /usr/share/nmap/scripts/vulscan, letting you run them right away. No host installation needed: Just pull this image and run it anywhere Docker is available.
How To Use
Pull the image:
docker pull cvitalik/nmap_vulnscan:latest
Run a basic Nmap help command:
docker run -it --rm cvitalik/nmap_vulnscan:latest (Shows the default nmap --help and exits.)
Vulnerability Scan Example Use vulscan scripts against a target host (replace with an IP or hostname):
docker run -it --rm cvitalik/nmap_vulnscan:latest
nmap -sV --script=vulscan/
-sV: Enables service/version detection. --script=vulscan/: Tells Nmap to run all scripts in the vulscan folder.
Specific Script Usage If you want to run just the main script vulscan.nse:
docker run -it --rm cvitalik/nmap_vulnscan:latest
nmap -sV --script=vulscan/vulscan.nse
This often includes references to CVEs and known vulnerabilities from multiple databases.
Using Host Networking
If you’re on Linux and need direct LAN access (for example, scanning within the same subnet without NAT issues), add --network host:
docker run -it --rm --network host cvitalik/nmap_vulnscan:latest
nmap -sV --script=vulscan/ 192.168.50.233
Disclaimer
Please only scan networks and hosts you own or are authorized to test. This container is provided for educational, auditing, and penetration testing purposes where permitted.
