GUI data explorer for the ESRF-BM32 beamline
This one is messy, but I will try to clean up the code later.
To run it on OS X:
Follow the instructions here https://cntnr.io/running-guis-with-docker-on-mac-os-x-a14df6a76efc
In case the link expires, this is a short version of what needs to be done.
1 install socat to create bidirectional streams between the docker container and the X window system
brew install socat
socat TCP-LISTEN:6000,reuseaddr,fork UNIX-CLIENT:\"$DISPLAY\"
2 install xquartz, open preferences, go to security and turn on allow connections from network clients
3 check your ip with ifconfig en0 (or en1 in my case), and put it in the DISPLAY environment variable
docker run -e DISPLAY=YOUR_IP_HERE:0 danielzt12/pyrod:latest
To run it on Linux:
docker run --net=host --env="DISPLAY" --volume="$HOME/.Xauthority:/root/.Xauthority:rw" danielzt12/pyrod:latest
To run it on Windows:
Follow the instructions here https://dev.to/darksmile92/run-gui-app-in-linux-docker-container-on-windows-host-4kde
In case the link expires, here is a short version of what needs to be done.
1 Install VcXsrv from https://sourceforge.net/projects/vcxsrv/
2 Run Xlaunch from the start menu, select multiple windows, start no client, and click on disable access control
Save the configuration to %userprofile%\Desktop
3 open a powershell terminal and type ipconfig to find out your IP
4 In the same powershell terminal, set the environmental variables with
set-variable -name DISPLAY -value YOUR_IP_HERE:0.0
5 docker run --rm -e DISPLAY=$DISPLAY danielzt12/pyrod:latest
Using mount
To mount local volume in the container, add the following to the docker run script
-v absolute_path_to_host_data:absolute_path_to_host_data:ro
the 2nd parameter is actually the path to the data in the container but needs to be set as identical to the host path
ro = read-only
