deputynl/dailybackup repository overview

Creates tar backups for all folders in the source folder in the destination folder. Runs at 03:00.

Filenames use the following format: [FOLDERNAME]daily_backup_day[DAY OF WEEK].tar

Where foldername is the name of the backed up folder and day of week is the numerical day of week. Existing backup files are overwritten, meaning that there are only ever 7 backup files going back one week.

On Sunday backups, a copy is made and given the week of month (0 - 5). On the first day of the month a monthly backup is stored.

Requires environment variables: $BACKUPSOURCE source folder out of which to backup all folders $BACKUPDESTINATION destination folder where tars are written $BACKUPHOUR hour in local time at which the process should run $BACKUPMINUTE minute in local time at which the process should run

The process will create a file called 'backupexcludepatterns' in each folder it backs up. This file contains the tar exclusion patterns, which can be used to exclude files and or folders from the backups. By default, the file itself is excluded.
