drqc04/merlin-test repository overview

Dynatrace merlin

Contains the UI and backend project of Dynatrace Merlin, a tool to create and consume templates based on project Monaco. https://github.com/dynatrace-oss/dynatrace-monitoring-as-code

Prerequisits:

  1. Docker installed on you machine (tested with version 20.10.7). Please refer to the official Docker docs for installation intructions for your OS;
  2. Create environment variables file (e.g. .env) from template (.env.demo). By default, there are no changes required to the file.

By default, the Merlin UI is served at http://127.0.0.1.nip.io:3000 on your localhost. If your company policies prevent you from accessing nip.io domains please update the .env file accordingly, for example by setting the urls to localhost:<port>.

In your project root folder, run the following commands to build a single docker container:

docker build -t merlin-app .

Use docker run to run the application:

docker run -p 4000:3040 -p 3000:80 --name merlin -d --env-file=".env" merlin-app:latest

Please update --env-file=".env" with a valid path to your environments values file.

The containers can be stopped and removed by running:

docker stop merlin
docker rm merlin

Installation - Docker Compose

  1. Install docker in your OS (If you are using linux you will also need docker-compose).Linux instructions:
 sudo curl -L "https://github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/1.29.2/docker-compose-$(uname -s)-$(uname -m)" -o /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
 sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
  1. Copy the file from ./configs/.env.demo and copy it to the main folder as .env. Replace the variables with your own values
  2. Run docker-compose up --build --force-recreate
  3. Navigate to http://merlin.127.0.0.1.nip.io

When opening the Merlin UI in your Browser you will be prompted to provide Git credentials. Merlin stores templates, as well as configuration versions in git. By providing credentials, Merlin can create a link from your Browser to your preferred Git provider (tested with Github, Bitbucket).
