ecognition/linux_ls repository overview

Trimble eCognition License Server

Prerequisite

To use the eCognition License Server you need a valid eCognition activation ID (contact support, if you need one: [email protected] ).
To activate the licenses you will also need and active internet connection available for the container. License is automatically activated when you start container and returned when container is stopped (do not kill running container, as license will be lost). To use the license server you need to expose few ports: the Flexera Agent Daemon port (you can choose port number you like), ports 27000-27009 and, optionally, port 8090 for web access.

Running the container

To run the container you need to use the following command:

docker run --privileged -d -e container=docker -e VENDOR_PORT=<VENDOR-PORT>-e ECOGNITION_ACTIVATION_ID=<ACTIVATION_ID> -e NR_LIC=<NUMBER_OF_HYBRID_LICENSES> -p <VENDOR-PORT>:<VENDOR-PORT> -p 27000-27009:27000-27009 -v /sys/fs/cgroup:/sys/fs/cgroup ecognition/linux_ls:10.5.0

Where:

  • VENDOR-PORT is the Flexera Agent Daemon port for internal communication, you can choose any number you like (for example, 1111).
  • ACTIVATION_ID is the eCognition activation ID, you find it in email containing your license entitlement.
  • NUMBER_OF_HYBRID_LICENSES is the number of licenses that you want to activate.
  • ports 27000-27009 are used for communication with license server.

Note: --privileged is required for license to be activated and returned properly.

Stopping the container

To stop the eCognition License Server container you should always use the docker container stop command, this way the valid licenses will be deactivated and you can reuse them. If you use docker container kill, the activated licenses will be lost permanently.

Troubleshooting

  • license server has a web console running on port 8090, you can make it available by exposing this port in docker run ... -p 8090:8090 command. If you do so, you can verify the license server state by navigating to your server address in your preferred browser:
    127.0.0.1:8090

  • when container starts, you can check whether license was properly activated by executing docker logs <CONTAINER_ID>, output should be similiar to this:
    ....
    Status: 9, Polling for response
    Status: 10, Waiting for response
    Status: 9, Polling for response
    Status: 11, Done
    TRANSFER REQUEST SUCCESSFULLY PROCESSED
    ...

  • when container stops, you can check whether license was properly returned by executing docker logs <CONTAINER_ID>, output should be similiar to this:
     ....
     Status: 9, Polling for response
     Status: 10, Waiting for response
     Status: 9, Polling for response
     Status: 11, Done
     SUCCESSFULLY SENT RETURN REQUEST
     +++ exit 0

  • if container stops automatically immediately after startup, then you can run it with a dedicated name by appending --name some_name to your docker run ... command and execute docker logs some_name right after it exits, this should give clues what went wrong during start-up or contact support on [email protected].
