Namecheap DDNS Update Docker Daemon

The idea is to have a docker container to be able to run it into your server (laptop, VPS, RaspberryPi, etc), updating your NameCheap hosted domain as soon as it detects the IP has changed. This image will run as a daemon, so it will be running until you stop it.

This image is based on eidansoft/namecheap-ddns-update

Run

You can launch the daemon from command line running:

docker run -d --name ddns --restart unless-stopped -e DOMAIN="YOUR_DOMAIN" -e HOST="HOST_NAME" -e PASSWORD='THE_PASSWORD' eidansoft/namecheap-ddns-update-daemon

Or if you prefer to work with docker-compose:

version: '3.5'
services:
  ddns:
    container_name: ddns
    image: eidansoft/namecheap-ddns-update-daemon
    restart: unless-stopped
    environment:
      - DOMAIN=YOUR_DOMAIN
      - PASSWORD=THE_PASSWORD
      - HOST=HOST_NAME

Environment Variables

Below you will find the variables you can set to the container in order to get it work with your configuration (for other variables take a look to its parent image):

  • NUM_SECONDS integer - the number of seconds between updates. If not provided, the default value is 600 seconds (10 minutes). Example for do it every 2 minutes: -e SECONDS=120.

Stop DDNS service

You can stop the daemon just killing the container:

sudo docker rm -f ddns

Log

The log can be found with the command:

sudo docker logs ddns

If you want save the log files, the container save it by default in /mnt, so you can just include a volume mounted there when run the container. This way the logs will be saved there. Example: -v /home/pi/my-logs:/mnt
