enriquelg/dns-server repository overview

DNS Server for edt.edu (Test Environment)

This repository contains a DNS server configuration specifically designed for testing purposes within the edt.edu domain, operating on the local network 192.168.1.0/24.

Example Usage

To run the DNS server in a Docker container, use the following command:

docker run -d --name dns-server-m08 -p 53:53/tcp -p 53:53/udp enriquelg/dns-server:v2

Verification Steps

After starting the DNS server, you can perform the following checks:

  1. Check Connectivity to Google:

nslookup google.com (Replace with the Host IP where the container is running)

  2. Check Local Domain Resolution:

    nslookup 192.168.1.10

    Expected Output:

    10.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa	name = dns.edt.edu.

  3. Configure the Local Resolver:

To set the Docker DNS server as your nameserver, add the following line to your /etc/resolv.conf:

echo "nameserver (Host IP where the container is hosted)" >> /etc/resolv.conf

Alternatively, you can edit the file using vim:

    vim /etc/resolv.conf

    Add the following line:

nameserver (Host IP where the container is hosted)

Notes
  • Ensure that the Host IP matches the IP address of the machine where the Docker container is running.
  • For changes to /etc/resolv.conf to take effect, you may need superuser privileges.
