erigontech/erigon repository overview

Erigon

Description

Erigon is a highly efficient and modular implementation of the Ethereum client, written in Go. It's designed for speed, optimization, and ease of use. While Erigon has traditionally focused on archive node functionality, Erigon 3 default to a full node configuration, offering a balance of performance and accessibility for a wider range of users. This full node configuration provides significantly faster synchronization times and reduced resource consumption for everyday operations. Archive node functionality remains available for developers and researchers who require access to the complete historical blockchain data.

Supported Tags

This repository provides Docker images for various Erigon versions, allowing you to select the optimal build for your needs.

Official Releases
  • latest: Points to the most recent official release of Erigon. This is generally recommended for production environments.
  • vN.N.N: Specific versioned releases (e.g., v2.4.0, v3.0.1). Use these tags for reproducible builds and to target specific Erigon versions.
Development/Snapshot Builds (Use with Caution)
  • main-latest: Built from the most recent commit in the main branch. These images are bleeding-edge and may be unstable. Use with caution and only for development or testing purposes.
  • main-XXXXXXX: Built from a specific commit (identified by its SHA hash) in the main branch. Useful for replicating specific builds but still subject to potential instability.

Important Note: Snapshot builds are not recommended for production environments as they may contain bugs or breaking changes.

How to Run docker container

These examples demonstrate basic usage. For more advanced configurations, please refer to the official documentation.

Print Usage (Help):

docker run erigontech/erigon:latest --help

Run Erigon on the Gnosis Chain (using a persistent volume):

docker run -v /path/to/local/big/volume:/home/erigon erigontech/erigon:latest --chain=gnosis
Key Considerations for Running Erigon in Docker:
  • Persistent Volumes: It is crucial to use a persistent volume (as shown in the example above) to store the blockchain data. Without a persistent volume, your data will be lost when the container is stopped or removed. Replace /path/to/local/big/volume with the actual path on your host system. Ensure the volume has sufficient space.
  • Network Ports: Erigon uses specific network ports. You may need to map these ports to your host system using the -p flag in the docker run command if you need to access Erigon from outside the container.
  • Configuration: Erigon offers many configuration options. You can pass these options directly to the docker run command after the image name and tag. Refer to the Erigon documentation for a complete list of available options.
