⁠Helidon CLI, Java 21, Maven 3.8 on EuroLinux 9

This container image provides the essential development environment for Helidon applications. It is based on EuroLinux 9 and includes the following tools:

• Java 21 with development packages
• Java 21 jmods
• Maven 3.8 from the official (distribution) maven:3.8 dnf module
• Helidon CLI 4.10.0 (might be in a newer version; image is built with the latest available version)

The jmods double the image size, but are necessary for jlink custom runtime creation.

Lastly the image run helidon non-root user for security reasons.

⁠Usage

Example usage with creating a new Helidon project (you can use dockerhub instead of quay.io and podman instead of docker). Firstly, run the container:

docker run --name helidon-dev-env --rm -it quay.io/eurolinux/eurolinux-9-helidon

Inside a container create and start the Helidon project:

helidon --version # returns version build date etc
# helidon init # use this one to create a new project in interactive mode
helidon init --name my-helidon-project --package com.example --batch # this uses example project use interactive mode for custom project
cd my-helidon-project
# start the dev env
helidon dev

Now you can access the application at http://localhost:8080/ with http://localhost:8080/simple-greet endpoint enabled.

You can additionally customize your experience by mounting volumes to the container, using it with your IDE, and exposing the ports to the host machine.

podman run --name helidon-dev-env --rm -it -v $(pwd):/helidon/my-helidon-project -p 8080:8080 eurolinux/eurolinux-9-helidon
