faiqsohail/securestego repository overview

SecureStego

SecureStego is a command-line steganography tool that uses AES-256 encryption to securely hide and extract sensitive data within images. This tool can encrypt and decrypt data, ensuring that your hidden messages remain confidential.

Features

  • AES-256 encryption for secure data hiding
  • Supports both PNG and JPEG image formats
  • Data integrity check with hash verification
  • Dockerized for easy portability

Getting Started

You can easily pull and use the SecureStego Docker image from Docker Hub.

Pull the Docker Image
docker pull faiqsohail/securestego:latest
Running SecureStego with Docker
Encryption (Hide Data in Image)
docker run --rm -it -v $(pwd):/app faiqsohail/securestego:latest -mode=encrypt -image=/app/<image.png> -data=/app/<secret.txt> -out=/app/<stego.png>

Replace:

  • <image.png>: Path to the image in which the data will be hidden.
  • <secret.txt>: Path to the file containing the data to hide.
  • <stego.png>: Path to the output image with hidden data.
Decryption (Extract Data from Image)
docker run --rm -it -v $(pwd):/app faiqsohail/securestego:latest -mode=decrypt -image=/app/<stego.png> -out=/app/<recovered.txt>

Replace:

  • <stego.png>: Path to the image that contains hidden data.
  • <recovered.txt>: Path where the extracted data will be saved.
Example
docker run --rm -it -v $(pwd):/app faiqsohail/securestego:latest -mode=encrypt -image=/app/sample.png -data=/app/secret.txt -out=/app/stego.png

This command will hide the contents of secret.txt inside sample.png, producing stego.png. You will be prompted for a password.

Note: sample.png and secret.txt will need to exist in the current working directory where the docker command is ran from.

Helpers for SecureStego

To make running the SecureStego Docker container easier, you can add the following helper functions to your shell configuration (.bashrc or .zshrc):

# Helpers for SecureStego
securestego_encrypt() {
  docker run --rm -it -v "$(pwd)":/app faiqsohail/securestego:latest \
  -mode=encrypt -image="/app/$1" -data="/app/$2" -out="/app/$3"
}
securestego_decrypt() {
  docker run --rm -it -v "$(pwd)":/app faiqsohail/securestego:latest \
  -mode=decrypt -image="/app/$1" -out="/app/$2"
}

Once added, you can use securestego_encrypt and securestego_decrypt commands directly from the terminal.

Example with the helpers

To encrypt:

securestego_encrypt <input.png> <secret.txt> <output.png>

To decrypt:

securestego_decrypt <output.png> <recovered.txt>
