This repository provides a toolbox image for the RISC-V architecture, enabling a seamless development environment on Fedora RISC-V systems.
Toolbox is a tool that provides a familiar package-based environment on modern, container-focused Fedora systems like Silverblue, Kinoite, and IoT. It allows you to install and use your favorite command-line tools and development software in a containerized environment that is integrated with the host system. This means you can keep your host system clean while having a flexible and customizable workspace.
This image, docker.io/fedorariscv/toolbox, is specifically built for the RISC-V architecture, allowing developers and users on Fedora RISC-V to leverage the power and convenience of toolbox.
To get started with the Fedora RISC-V toolbox, you first need to have toolbox installed on your system. If it's not already installed, you can do so with the following command:
sudo dnf install toolbox
Once toolbox is installed, you can create a new toolbox container using the docker.io/fedorariscv/toolbox image. You can specify a particular version by using the appropriate tag.
For example, to create a toolbox container based on Fedora 42 for RISC-V, run the following command:
toolbox create --image docker.io/fedorariscv/toolbox:42 fedora-riscv-toolbox-42
This command will:
docker.io/fedorariscv/toolbox:42 image if it's not already present on your system.fedora-riscv-toolbox-42 based on this image. After the container is created, you can enter it to start using your new development environment:
toolbox enter fedora-riscv-toolbox-42
Once inside the toolbox, you will be in a standard Fedora environment where you can use dnf to install any packages you need for your development work. Your home directory from the host system is mounted inside the toolbox, so you have seamless access to your files.
The fedorariscv/toolbox image is available with the following tags, corresponding to different Fedora releases:
42: Based on Fedora 42 for RISC-V.41: Based on Fedora 41 for RISC-V.You can choose the tag that best suits your needs when creating a new toolbox container. For example, to use the Fedora 41 image, you would run:
toolbox create --image docker.io/fedorariscv/toolbox:41 fedora-riscv-toolbox-41
And to enter it:
toolbox enter fedora-riscv-toolbox-41
We hope this Fedora RISC-V toolbox image enhances your development experience on the RISC-V architecture. Happy coding!
