Run "docker pull gplates/atom" to download the docker container image.
Run "docker run --rm -d -p 18888:8888 -v YOUR_LOCAL_FOLDER:FOLDER_INSIDE_DOCKER gplates/atom" to start the ATOM container as a daemon. A Jupyter Notebook server will be accessible at localhost:18888. Type " http://localhost:18888/ " in the address bar of your web browser to see the notebooks. The notebooks for teaching ATOM are http://localhost:18888/notebooks/GEOS2115_past.ipynb and http://localhost:18888/notebooks/GEOS2115_present_day.ipynb .
The "-v" parameter will mount a local folder to the filesystem in the docker container. For example, if I start the docker container with this command "docker run --rm -d -p 18888:8888 -v /Users/mchin/workspaces/atom/output:/home/workspace/output gplates/atom", the ATOM output files will be put into my local folder /Users/mchin/workspaces/atom/output. Replace the folder path with a valid folder path in your computer.
The ATOM source code can be found here https://github.com/atom-model/ATOM.
