grumpysystems/vanilla repository overview

Docker Minecraft- Vanilla

This is a docker image that contains a vanilla Minecraft server. It's built automagically using some other CI jobs.

Versions

This container is built with a weird version syntax due to the fact that 3 people are versioning things. They look like this:

vanilla-1.19.1-u0
^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ ^^
  | | |
  | | |- Revision Number (Me)
  | |
  | |- Minecraft Version Number (Mojang)
  |
  |- Type of server

The revision number will increment to indicate changes to this docker container that don't change the Minecraft version (like security updates or bug fixes to the container itself).

For this image, vanilla, latest will be kept update to date with the most recent version. vanilla-xx will be the most recent build for a particular version (applies minor updates automatically).

Security updates are triggered in short order, usually with 8-12 hours (depending on the severity and how fast Debian patches).

Environment Variables

There's only one right now:

  • JAVA_MEM - Memory limit for Java. Defaults to 2G if you don't specify anything.

Volumes

There's two volumes that you'll likely want to mount for real servers: /opt/minecraft/map wich will contain your map data, and /opt/minecraft/config which will contain server.properties, whitelists, etc. The image will function without mounting things, but will spit out a warning because if you remove the docker volumes, you'll lose your map and config.

Building a New Version

These images are built automatically, and those are triggered via Git Tags. The tag is the full container version, and it's parsed. It needs to look like this:

vanilla-<mc_version>-<paper_version>-<update_version>

You'll need these tools:

To build an image, run ant build. If you specify no versions, some defaults are put in. If you'd like to set a version, set a tag in the format above in the DRONE_TAG environment variable.

Contributing

This repository is mirrored on GitHub from my local Git / CI system. Contributions, issues, etc are welcome here (I monitor things here too). Note, that your commits will not trigger any CI! Please run tests locally to make sure your build passes.
