gweppi/stream repository overview

Simple RTMP server

A Docker container that can be used to set up a simple sever that can receive an RTMP stream and send it out as HLS or DASH stream following this tutorial.

Quick run

Start by running docker run -e PUBLISH_IP="all" -d -p 1935:1935 -p 8088:8088 gweppi/stream:latest

How to use

  • Pull the container from Docker Hub docker pull gweppi/stream
  • Start the container docker run -e PUBLISH_IP="<STREAM_IP>" -d -p 1935:1935 -p 8088:8088 gweppi/stream:latest (see Environment variables)
  • On RTMP client, (for example, OBS) set stream URL to rtmp://<CONTAINER_IP>:1935/live
  • Set the streamkey to something random like mybeautifulstream.
  • Start the stream
  • Receive the stream through either http://<CONTAINER_IP:8088/hls/<streamkey>.m3u8 or http://<CONATINER_IP:8088/dash/<streamkey>.mpd

Environment variables

  • PUBLISH_IP: IP address that is allowed to publish RTMP stream to the server. Use all to allow all IPs (not very safe 🙃).

Ports used

  • 8088 used to receive stream
  • 1935 used to publish stream to server
  • 80 is exposed, but do not use. Just contains the 'Welcome to nginx!` template page.
