helmforge/openreel-video repository overview

helmforge/openreel-video

Production-ready OpenReel Video container image for HelmForge deployments.

This image provides a clean, secure and Kubernetes-ready runtime for OpenReel Video, an open-source browser-based video editor designed to run fully client-side with no uploads, no installs and no cloud processing.

Features

  • OpenReel Video browser-based editor
  • Built from the upstream Augani/openreel-video release
  • React, TypeScript and Vite static build
  • Served through an unprivileged NGINX runtime
  • Runs as non-root user by default
  • SPA fallback to index.html
  • Health check endpoint available at /healthz
  • COOP/COEP headers enabled for browser video, WASM and SharedArrayBuffer workflows
  • Supports WebCodecs, WebGPU and client-side video processing
  • No embedded credentials
  • No external database required
  • No server-side media processing required
  • Built for HelmForge chart deployments

Quick usage

docker pull docker.io/helmforge/openreel-video:latest

Run locally:

docker run --rm -p 8080:8080 docker.io/helmforge/openreel-video:latest

Access:

  • Web editor: http://localhost:8080
  • Health check: http://localhost:8080/healthz

Kubernetes usage

This image is intended to be used with HelmForge Kubernetes deployments.

helm repo add helmforge https://repo.helmforge.dev

For production deployments, expose the application through an Ingress Controller, CDN or reverse proxy with HTTPS enabled.

Because OpenReel Video relies on modern browser APIs, keep the required COOP/COEP headers enabled when placing the application behind an ingress, gateway, CDN or WAF.

Runtime

Default container port:

  • 8080

Health check:

curl http://localhost:8080/healthz

Expected response:

{
  "status": "ok"
}

Browser requirements

OpenReel Video uses modern browser capabilities for client-side video editing and export.

Recommended browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Chromium-based browsers with WebCodecs/WebGPU support

Tags

  • latest — latest published HelmForge OpenReel Video image
  • v0.4.0 — pinned OpenReel Video upstream release image
  • <version> — pinned HelmForge image version

For production workloads, prefer pinning a specific version instead of using latest.

docker pull docker.io/helmforge/openreel-video:<version>

Security

This image follows a security-first runtime approach:

  • Non-root runtime user
  • Minimal NGINX-based static runtime
  • No embedded credentials
  • No database credentials required
  • No server-side media upload requirement
  • Static frontend delivery only
  • COOP/COEP headers enabled for required browser APIs
  • Suitable for Kubernetes, GitOps and CI/CD-based deployments
