hexastack/hexabot-base repository overview

Hexabot v2 Base Docker Image

This Docker image is the base image used for Hexabot v2 Docker builds.

Hexabot v2 is the previous generation of Hexabot, a chatbot builder that allows users to create and manage AI-powered, multi-channel, and multilingual chatbot experiences. This image is intended as a technical foundation for compatible Hexabot v2 services and should mainly be used by maintainers, contributors, or advanced users building Hexabot v2 images.

Important: This image is for Hexabot v2 only. It is not the recommended base image or distribution model for Hexabot v3.

What This Image Is For

This image may be used as a shared base layer for Hexabot v2 Docker images, such as API, frontend, worker, or related service images.

It is not intended to be run directly as a complete Hexabot application.

To run Hexabot v2, use the full compatible Hexabot v2 Docker setup and the appropriate service images.

Hexabot v2 vs Hexabot v3

Hexabot has evolved significantly in version 3.

In Hexabot v2, Docker images were used as a central distribution and deployment model, with supporting images such as this hexastack/hexabot-base image.

In Hexabot v3, Docker is optional. Hexabot can run directly with Node.js and the CLI, while Docker remains useful for production deployments and service orchestration. The application is now distributed through npm packages, including @hexabot-ai/api, which bundles the required application runtime and frontend assets.

For new projects, we recommend using the latest Hexabot v3 setup and documentation.

Licensing Notice

Hexabot v2 is published under the GNU GPL v2 license.

Hexabot v3 is published under the Hexabot Fair-Core License.

Because the licensing model changed between v2 and v3, we avoid using broad terms such as “open source” to describe the current Hexabot project without additional context. Please review the license that applies to the specific Hexabot version you are using.

Usage

Pull the Docker image:

docker pull hexastack/hexabot-base:latest

This image is generally used as a parent image in Dockerfiles, for example:

FROM hexastack/hexabot-base:latest

This image should be used only as part of compatible Hexabot v2 builds.

For new installations and active development, please use Hexabot v3.

Refer to the official Hexabot documentation and repository for the latest setup instructions, package-based installation, Docker-based deployment options, and licensing information.
