Most were optimized for their own needs. With this image I try to provide you an easy container for your favorite game.\n\n## How the image works (in a nutshell)\nWhen the image is started, the container downloads steamcmd. \nThis in turn downloads the game files. \nThe game server is then started with the variables you used. \n\n## Usage\nNo More Room in Hell only supports anonymous game servers. \nYou don't need a [Game Server Login Token (GSLT)](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers) to get listed on the master server or to get Steam achievements. \nIt is not recommend to use a GSLT, because it breaks server-side Workshop and could lead to an error (check the [Custom information and errors](#custom-information-and-errors-good-to-know) section).\n\nStart the Docker container and make sure to mount a directory or volume to keep the files persistent:\n\n docker run -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nOr if you want to use a different startmap, you could set that via a variable as follows:\n\n docker run -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -e NMRIH_STARTMAP=\"nmo_broadway\" \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\n#### User Password for the nmrih user\n\n---\nYou should set a user password for the nmrih user via the NMRIH_USERPWD variable, otherwise a random password will be generated. \nThe random password will not be shown in the log. It is stored in the file /root/nmrih_userpwd, which can only be read by root. \nThe password stays the same when the container is restarted. It will only be generated again when the container is recreated. \nYou can read the password with the following commands:\n\n docker exec cat /root/nmrih_userpwd\n\n kubectl exec -- cat /root/nmrih_userpwd\n\nIt is highly recommand to use a secret for the password. The image reads the password from the file /run/secrets/nmrih_userpwd. \nThis works with Docker, Docker Compose, Docker Swarm and Kubernetes. \nIf the file exists, the variable NMRIH_USERPWD will be ignored. \n\nWith a normal docker run, you could mount a file with the password into the container. Please make sure to adjust the password correctly. \n\n echo \"your_password_here\" > ~/nmrih_userpwd.txt\n chmod 600 ~/nmrih_userpwd.txt\n\nNow run the container with the following command:\n\n docker run -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih_userpwd.txt:/run/secrets/nmrih_userpwd:ro \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nIf you use Docker Compose or Kubernetes, you can find an example for the secret in the docker-compose.yml and kubernetes-nmrih.yml in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dringewald/docker-nmrih-server/). \nIf you use Docker Swarm, you could create the secret with the following command and add \"--secret nmrih_userpwd\" to your \"docker service create\" command.\n\n echo \"your_password_here\" | docker secret create nmrih_userpwd -\n\nIf you don't want to use a secret, then you could also manually set the variable NMRIH_USERPWD. \nIt is not advised to do so, due to security risks. \nEven if it isn't recommand, it is needed in some cases. \n\n docker run -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -e NMRIH_USERPWD=\"yourpassword\" \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\n#### RCON and server password\n\n---\nThe RCON password and the server password could also be set via a secret. \nThe image reads them from the following files. If a file exists, the variable will be ignored. \n\n|Secret file|Description|Variable (used if the file doesn't exist)|\n| ------------- | ------------- | ------------- |\n|/run/secrets/nmrih_userpwd|Password of the nmrih user|NMRIH_USERPWD|\n|/run/secrets/nmrih_rconpw|RCON password|NMRIH_RCONPW|\n|/run/secrets/nmrih_pw|Server password|NMRIH_PW|\n\nWith a normal docker run, you could create the files and mount them into the container. \n\n echo \"your_rcon_password_here\" > ~/nmrih_rconpw.txt\n echo \"your_server_password_here\" > ~/nmrih_pw.txt\n chmod 600 ~/nmrih_rconpw.txt ~/nmrih_pw.txt\n\n docker run -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih_rconpw.txt:/run/secrets/nmrih_rconpw:ro \\\n -v ~/nmrih_pw.txt:/run/secrets/nmrih_pw:ro \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nYou can find examples for Docker Compose and Kubernetes in the docker-compose.yml and kubernetes-nmrih.yml in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dringewald/docker-nmrih-server/). \nIf you don't want to use a secret, you could still use the variables NMRIH_RCONPW and NMRIH_PW.\n\nPlease note that the server.cfg is executed after the start parameters of the server. \nIf you set the RCON password or the server password via a secret or a variable, make sure that there is no \"rcon_password\" or \"sv_password\" in your server.cfg. \nOtherwise the passwords from the server.cfg will override the passwords from the secret or the variable.\n\n#### server.cfg\n\n---\nThe image does not create a server.cfg, so the server starts with the default settings. \nYou can find a template for the server.cfg (examples/server.cfg) in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dringewald/docker-nmrih-server/tree/master/examples). \nCopy it to /home/nmrih/server/nmrih/cfg/server.cfg and adjust it to your needs. \nThe file is stored in the volume of the game files, so it stays when the container is recreated. \nIf you want to use another name for the file, you could set it via the variable NMRIH_CONFIG_FILE.\n\nYou can copy the file into the container with the following commands:\n\n docker cp server.cfg :/home/nmrih/server/nmrih/cfg/server.cfg\n docker exec chown nmrih:nmrih /home/nmrih/server/nmrih/cfg/server.cfg\n\n kubectl cp server.cfg games/:/home/nmrih/server/nmrih/cfg/server.cfg\n kubectl exec -n games -- chown nmrih:nmrih /home/nmrih/server/nmrih/cfg/server.cfg\n\nThe server.cfg is executed on every map start, so you don't need to restart the container after a change. \nPlease don't set \"sv_password\" or \"rcon_password\" in the server.cfg, if you use the secrets or the variables (check the [RCON and server password](#rcon-and-server-password) section).\n\n#### SFTP Usage\n\n---\nIn some environments, for example in kubernetes clusters, it is needed or more comfortable to access the gameserver files via SFTP. \nThis methode is the most convient one in some special cases. \nThe image has an OpenSSH server included, to use SFTP. \nBy default it is disabled and will not start when the image is started, but it can be activated by the use of variables. \nYou should atleast include the /etc/ssh/host-keyfiles as a volume, to have consistent hostkeys.\n\nIf you enter one or more public keys, these are stored for both the \"root\" and \"nmrih\" users.\nThe keys are stored in /etc/ssh/nmrih-keyfiles/pubkey.pub for the \"nmrih\" user and in /etc/ssh/root-keyfiles/pubkey.pub for the \"root\" user. \nKeys which are already in the file will not be added again. \nA login via \"root\" is deactivated by default and can be activated using the ENABLEROOT variable.\n\nThis example allows login via your provided SSH public key.\n\n docker run -p 22:22/tcp -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\ \n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih-hostkeys-folder:/etc/ssh/host-keyfiles \\\n -e ENABLESSH=\"true\" \\\n -e SSHKEY=\"ecdsa-sha2-nistp521 AAAAE2... user1@example.com\" \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nIt is also possible to specify multiple public SSH keys by using a semicolon (;) as a separator between the keys.\n\n docker run -p 22:22/tcp -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\ \n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih-hostkeys-folder:/etc/ssh/host-keyfiles \\\n -e ENABLESSH=\"true\" \\\n -e SSHKEY=\"ecdsa-sha2-nistp521 AAAAE2... user1@example.com;ssh-rsa AAAAB3... user2@example.com\" \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nThe following example allows the use of your password via the secret.\n\n docker run -p 22:22/tcp -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\ \n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih-hostkeys-folder:/etc/ssh/host-keyfiles \\\n -e ENABLESSH=\"true\" \\\n -e ENABLEPWD=\"true\" \\\n -v ~/nmrih_userpwd.txt:/run/secrets/nmrih_userpwd:ro \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nThe following run command lets the ssh server start with a password set via the variable and allows the use of the password for login as the nmrih user.\n\n docker run -p 22:22/tcp -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih-hostkeys-folder:/etc/ssh/host-keyfiles \\\n -e NMRIH_USERPWD=\"yourpassword\" \\\n -e ENABLESSH=\"true\" \\\n -e ENABLEPWD=\"true\" \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\nYou could also combine the login via your SSH public key and your password. \nThis could be useful if you need it for automatitions were programs can't use your ssh key.\n\n docker run -p 22:22/tcp -p 27010:27010/udp -p 27015:27015/tcp -p 27015:27015/udp -p 27020:27020/udp \\\n -v ~/nmrih-gamedata-folder:/home/nmrih/server \\\n -v ~/nmrih-steamcmd-folder:/home/nmrih/steamcmd \\\n -v ~/nmrih-hostkeys-folder:/etc/ssh/host-keyfiles \\\n -e ENABLESSH=\"true\" \\\n -e ENABLEPWD=\"true\" \\\n -e SSHKEY=\"ecdsa-sha2-nistp521 AAAAE2... user1@example.com\" \\\n -v ~/nmrih_userpwd.txt:/run/secrets/nmrih_userpwd:ro \\\n holt31/nmrih-server:latest\n\n## Volumes\nThis image has 3 directories for which it makes sense to make them persistent.\nMake sure to set the correct permissions for the user and group (1000) of both nmrih gameserver files. \nWith the help of the NMRIH_FIXPERMS variable, the container should set the correct permissions on startup for all important folders.\nIf NMRIH_FIXPERMS is used, the startup of the container will be slighter longer.\n\n|Directory|Description|Required/Optional|Permissions|\n| ------------- | ------------- | ------------- | ------------- |\n|/home/nmrih/server|This directory contains all files relevant to the game. This includes all maps, models etc. The game files are downloaded at the first start. (Result = 15)\n ```\n The error code 15 means \"Access Denied\". \n No More Room in Hell only supports anonymous game servers, so you shouldn't use a [Game Server Login Token (GSLT)](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers). \n To fix the error, make sure to do the following:\n * Remove the variable NMRIH_TOKEN\n * Remove the variable NMRIH_AUTH_KEY\n * Leave the variable NMRIH_IP_ADDRESS empty, so the server doesn't bind to a specific IP address (important for Docker and Kubernetes)\n\n Thanks to the NMRIH developers for the help in the [Ticket](https://discord.com/channels/211900829307895819/1260547075016495156) on the official [NMRIH Discord Server](https://discord.gg/nmrih).\n\n2. The following error codes are related to an expired or invalid [Game Server Login Token (GSLT)](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers).\n ```\n Could not establish connection to Steam servers. (Result = 18)\n ```\n ```\n Could not establish connection to Steam servers. (Result = 106)\n ```\n NMRIH doesn't need a GSLT, so just remove the variable NMRIH_TOKEN.\n\n3. If you get the error \"Permission denied\", then make sure you assign the correct permission to the volumes. \n The error message on startup of the container may look like this.\n ```\n rm: cannot remove '/home/nmrih/steamcmd': Device or resource busy\n rm: cannot remove '/home/nmrih/server': Device or resource busy\n steamcmd.sh\n tar: steamcmd.sh: Cannot open: Permission denied\n ```\n Make sure to create and set the permissions correctly.\n Check the [Volumes](#volumes) section about the correct permissions. \n\n4. No More Room in Hell needs the 32-bit library libtinfo5 for the server console, otherwise the following warning appears.\n ```\n WARNING: Failed to load 32-bit libtinfo.so.5 or libncurses.so.5.\n ```\n Since Ubuntu 24.04 this library is not available anymore. \n The image adds the Ubuntu 22.04 repository and only installs libtinfo5 from it. All other packages are still installed from Ubuntu 26.04. \n You can find the settings for this in the files files/apt/jammy.sources and files/apt/jammy.pref in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dringewald/docker-nmrih-server/).\n\n5. With the update from 13.09.2026 the image supports secrets for the passwords (check the [RCON and server password](#rcon-and-server-password) section). \n If you used the image in Kubernetes before and now mount the secrets into /run/secrets, the pod may not start anymore. \n The pod shows the status \"RunContainerError\" and the log of the container is empty.\n ```\n NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE\n nmrih-7cc765c89-wpx7l 0/1 RunContainerError 3 (19s ago) 78s\n ```\n With \"kubectl describe pod\" you will find an error with \"read-only file system\" in the events. \n The reason is that /var/run is a link to /run in the container. Kubernetes tries to mount the service account token into /var/run/secrets/kubernetes.io/serviceaccount, which is inside the read-only secret. \n The gameserver doesn't need access to the Kubernetes API, so just add the following line to the spec of the pod in your deployment:\n ```\n automountServiceAccountToken: false\n ```\n You could also change your running deployment with the following command:\n ```\n kubectl patch deployment nmrih -n games -p '{\"spec\":{\"template\":{\"spec\":{\"automountServiceAccountToken\":false}}}}'\n ```\n The kubernetes-nmrih.yml in the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dringewald/docker-nmrih-server/) already contains this setting. \n If you don't mount the secrets into /run/secrets, nothing needs to be changed.","has_starred","hub_user","immutable_tags_settings",{"_79":11,"_80":81},"enabled","rules",[82],".*","is_automated","permissions",{"_86":21,"_87":11,"_88":11},"read","write","admin","user","storage_size",24621079944,"orgData","recentTags",[95],{"_96":49,"_97":98,"_99":100,"_101":102,"_103":104,"_105":106,"_55":122,"_123":98,"_124":33,"_125":61,"_43":126,"_127":128,"_129":113,"_130":122,"_131":70,"_132":21},"content_type","creator",10614054,"digest","sha256:d19bedaff6da1e165e62640ce39e3b10d3555f9a9eee7c53d17dc75a4c982f86","full_size",175972915,"id",718967904,"images",[107],{"_108":109,"_99":100,"_110":111,"_112":113,"_114":115,"_116":117,"_118":111,"_119":-5,"_120":102,"_67":70,"_121":-5},"architecture","amd64","features","","last_pulled","2026-10-07T15:20:09.396997826Z","last_pushed","2026-10-05T00:04:27.004161035Z","os","linux","os_features","os_version","size","variant","2026-10-05T00:04:27.249711Z","last_updater","last_updater_username","media_type","latest","repository",24606832,"tag_last_pulled","tag_last_pushed","tag_status","v2","sbxKitMetadata","isPotentialSpam","isHubSbxKitsEnabled","showSbxLogoOverride","sbxTrademarkText","displaySecurityMetadata","tagAttestations","tagsHaveAttestations",[],"selectedTag","attestationsUrl","routes/_layout.r.$namespace.$reponame.tags",{"_38":146,"_154":155,"_140":164,"_165":11},{"_40":147,"_47":149,"_50":51,"_52":53,"_54":11,"_55":56,"_57":58,"_59":150,"_43":35,"_32":33,"_62":63,"_64":49,"_65":66,"_67":68,"_69":70,"_71":-5,"_72":66,"_73":74,"_75":11,"_76":33,"_77":151,"_83":11,"_84":153,"_89":33,"_90":91},[148],{"_43":44,"_45":46},[49],[61],{"_79":11,"_80":152},[82],{"_86":21,"_87":11,"_88":11},"tags",{"_156":68,"_157":-5,"_158":-5,"_159":160},"count","next","previous","results",[161],{"_96":49,"_97":98,"_99":100,"_101":102,"_103":104,"_105":162,"_55":122,"_123":98,"_124":33,"_125":61,"_43":126,"_127":128,"_129":113,"_130":122,"_131":70,"_132":21},[163],{"_108":109,"_99":100,"_110":111,"_112":113,"_114":115,"_116":117,"_118":111,"_119":-5,"_120":102,"_67":70,"_121":-5},[],"canDeleteTags","actionData","errors"]
