Vacation Time

In about a month, I am going on my first vacation in 20 years. It is not that I have not wanted to go on one- it is just expensive to take my 6 person household on a trip. However, that is going to change this year, and I cannot wait! For this vacation to happen, I had to buckle down in quite a few areas. If you want to go on vacation but have no idea how to make it happen, I want to share what I have learned with you.

Plan an Affordable Vacation

Step 1

To get to where you want to go in life, you have to have a plan. That includes when you are making a vacation. For years when I thought about vacations, all I could see was everything that would keep me from them, but I am going to share my secret with you. I decided to put my degree to work and attack it like a project manager. I disconnected myself mentally from our financial situation and pretended I was a stranger looking at it for the first time, and I went on a mission to plan an affordable vacation.

Step 2

Approaching it like a stranger, I could really analyze my budget and see that there were some things we could give up- at least for a while. I did not think about how sad my kids would be if we did without something unnecessary for a while. I simply wrote down what could be given up, and came up with a realistic amount that we could budget in for a vacation.

Step 3

From there, I found a way to make the vacation fit into the budget. For instance, since the budget would be tight, I knew we could not go too far because we could not pay for six plane tickets. Fortunately, we live very close to Florida so staying close was not a big problem. I continued through the vacation plan until I had cut everything down as much as possible.

Ways to Pay for a Vacation

After you have planned your affordable vacation, you have to figure out how to pay for it. Ideally, everyone would have enough cash in hand to pay for everything, but \"ideal\" is rare. That's okay- you can still do it. Try to work your way down the following list- preferably in order- to pay for your vacation:

Save for It

This is absolutely the best way to do it if it is possible. Budget the amount you need in and treat it as seriously as you do your mortgage or utility bills. Tell yourself it is non negotiable. You may be able to save some of it at tax time if you get a refund from the IRS.

Make Some Extra Cash

If your regular income will not cover all of the expenses, try making some additional cash. You can do this with things like babysitting, baking birthday cakes, yard work, cleaning houses, garage sales, washing cars, a second job, or even recycling.

Vacation Loans

If all else fails, you can get travel finance, even if your credit is not so good or really bad. It may require some extra work, but you can usually find a lender through personal loan shopping. You can do that by doing an Internet search for terms like \"vacation loans\" or \"travel finance with bad credit\".

You will likely get an overwhelming amount of results, so let me give you a hint: websites like Loanry can help connect you with a lender for your travel loan. Since they do the search for you, it simplifies the process for you. Try first for personal installment loans. You usually get lower interest rates and a longer repayment term. If you do not find a personal installment loan, you can also look for short term loan lenders. Interest rates tend to be higher and repayment loans shorter. They are the less favorable option but an option nonetheless.

Finance Options for Travel Agents & Holiday Companies

You may decide that it is easier to go through a travel agent or holiday company, and that's cool. They can often help you plan accommodations within your budget, and the earlier you can book through them, the better. There are a couple of finance options for travel agents and holiday companies: with cash or credit. Some agencies let you make payments over time, which can make it easier on you.

But what do you do if they find you an amazing price but you have to book and pay today or put a deposit on it, and you do not get paid for a week? There are quick cash loans and emergency cash loans that will get you the money quickly.

Start Planning Now

Do not let finances stop you from going on vacation as I did. Where there is a will, there is a way. Even if it takes you two years to pay for it, that is fine, but start planning now. Squeeze your budget as tight as you can, save as much as you can, and get ready for a great vacation. If you need financial assistance for it, check out Loanry today to see what lenders they can connect you to and how they can help.
