⁠visualNMS - Web-Based Network Management System

Real-time network monitoring with a live topology map, per-link traffic graphs, SFP/fiber optical readings, device health tracking, and built-in diagnostic tools. Node.js + Express + MongoDB + Socket.IO backend, Cytoscape.js + Chart.js frontend. Multi-user with role/operation permissions, scheduled data retention, and a storage cleanup dashboard.

The image is self-contained: it bundles a dedicated MongoDB server that starts automatically on boot and is used internally - no external database required.

⁠Quick start

docker run -d --name visualnms -p 3000:3000 \
  -v visualnms-data:/data/db \
  -e JWT_SECRET=change-me \
  indianprogrammer/visualnms:latest

Open http://localhost:3000⁠. On start the container launches its embedded MongoDB on 127.0.0.1:27017, waits for it to be ready, then starts the NMS on that internal database.

⁠Using an external MongoDB

Pass MONGO_URI to skip the embedded server and connect to your own MongoDB instead:

⁠Default login

admin / admin - created automatically on first boot. Change it!

• Live topology map - drag-and-drop devices, real-time Rx/Tx rate labels, oper/admin state coloring, hover graphs, link width follows port speed, device nodes show name/IP+latency/health.
• Continuous link graphs - per-cycle server-computed rates; SNMP misses repeat the last good value so graphs stay continuous.
• SFP / fiber optical power - Rx/Tx dBm, temperature, voltage, bias via ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB / CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB / MikroTik.
• Device health - ping latency, CPU/memory/disk, uptime, per-interface status & counters.
• Diagnostic Tools - Ping, Traceroute, live-streaming MTR, Port Scan, DNS Lookup, HTTP Check, SNMP Walk.
• Users & permissions - Read Only / Read & Write / Admin roles with fine-grained page + operation permissions (Settings -> Users).
• Data retention & cleanup - scheduled downsampling + retention (Settings -> Data Retention), plus a storage dashboard with per-category sizes and one-click sweeps (Settings -> Data Cleanup).
• Discovery, alerts, event log, syslog/trap receivers, SNMP profiles, multi-theme UI.
