intellisensexserveriot/xserver-iot repository overview

Xserver.IoT.Docker

Free Industrial IoT Edge Platform for up to 10 field devices — full functionality, multi-architecture support and a seamless upgrade path.

Xserver.IoT.Docker is a Docker-based industrial IoT platform developed by IntelliSense. It enables system integrators, developers and industrial users to connect heterogeneous equipment, collect and process real-time data, and run industrial applications at the edge.

The platform can be installed and used free of charge with up to 10 field devices, including PLCs, meters, sensors and other industrial equipment. The Free Tier includes the full platform functionality, making it suitable for learning, prototyping, small-scale deployments and custom industrial IoT solutions.

Free Tier and Scalability

The Free Tier provides the same platform functionality as the paid version, with a limit of up to 10 connected field devices. There are no feature restrictions within the Free Tier.

Free Tier users also receive access to the latest software updates and the complete technical documentation, including installation guides and OnboardTask development resources.

As your project grows, you can upgrade to a paid license without replacing the platform or rebuilding your existing configuration. This allows you to start with a small installation and scale to larger industrial systems while preserving your existing investment.

Flexible Deployment

Xserver.IoT.Docker can be deployed in on-premises, local edge and cloud environments, including physical Linux servers, virtual machines and cloud infrastructure.

The platform supports both x64 (AMD64) and ARM64 architectures, enabling deployment on a wide range of hardware, from compact industrial edge computers to enterprise servers and cloud-based infrastructure.

Ubuntu Linux is the recommended operating system. The platform also fully supports running under Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), providing a convenient option for Windows-based development, testing and evaluation environments.

Key Capabilities

  • Free installation and use with up to 10 connected field devices
  • Full platform functionality, software updates and technical documentation in the Free Tier
  • Seamless upgrade from Free Tier to paid licensing for larger systems
  • Multi-architecture support for x64 (AMD64) and ARM64 platforms
  • Deployment on Ubuntu Linux, WSL, on-premises servers, virtual machines and cloud infrastructure
  • Industrial data acquisition and protocol integration
  • Connectivity to PLCs, meters, sensors and other industrial equipment
  • Support for a wide range of protocols and interfaces, including OPC UA, Modbus TCP/IP, REST API, MQTT, SFTP and more
  • Real-time data processing and local data storage
  • Connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server and other database systems
  • Graphical configuration using IoT Explorer Edge
  • Custom C# Onboard Apps for industrial logic, data processing and integrations
  • REST API access for external applications and services
  • Integration with visualization, analytics and enterprise platforms
  • Docker-based deployment and update management
  • Integration with IntelliSense software solutions

Easy Configuration with IoT Explorer Edge

The platform can be configured through the IoT Explorer Edge graphical application. Users can manage device connections, configure data acquisition and monitor the operation of the IoT Server without having to manually edit configuration files.

This makes the platform accessible to system integrators and industrial users while retaining the flexibility required for advanced applications.

Develop Custom C# Onboard Apps

For application-specific requirements, developers can create custom C# Onboard Apps using the Xserver.IoT OnboardTask framework.

Onboard Apps can process real-time measurements, implement custom control and calculation logic, communicate with external systems, and extend the platform with application-specific functionality.

The framework provides a foundation for developing industrial solutions such as equipment monitoring, production data collection, condition monitoring, energy management and custom automation workflows.

The complete technical documentation and development resources are available to Free Tier users, making it possible to develop and deploy custom applications without purchasing a paid license.

Database and System Integration

Xserver.IoT.Docker supports local data storage and connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server and other database systems, enabling integration with centralized databases, reporting systems and enterprise applications.

The platform can also exchange data with external systems through industrial protocols, REST APIs and custom C# Onboard Apps. This enables integration with visualization and analytics platforms such as Grafana and Microsoft Power BI, as well as SCADA, MES, ERP, cloud services and other industrial IT systems.

Depending on the target system, integrations can be implemented through supported protocols, APIs, database connections or custom Onboard Apps. This provides the flexibility to connect field-level equipment with existing IT infrastructure and develop application-specific data flows.

Public Docker Hub Installation

Xserver.IoT.Docker can be installed directly from the public Docker Hub repository. The Free Tier supports up to 10 connected field devices with full platform functionality.

Download and run the installation script on the target Ubuntu server:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/IntelliSenseIoT/XserverIoTOnboardTask.NET/main/Docker/install-dockerhub.sh -o install-dockerhub.sh
sudo bash install-dockerhub.sh

The installer downloads and configures the required Docker images, including the Xserver.IoT.Docker update service.

Note: The public installer provides general default settings that may need to be adjusted to suit your specific environment and IT requirements. Before production deployment, the system administrator should review and adapt the configuration, including security and access settings, as necessary.
