This image extends the official PostGIS 17-3.5 base with the pgvector extension compiled from source
5.9K
Key Features
POSTGRES_USER, POSTGRES_PASSWORD, and POSTGRES_DB..sql or shell scripts placed in docker-entrypoint-initdb.d/ will run on first launch.pg_isready call to ensure the container is accepting connections.Usage
Pull and Run isopen/pgisvector:latest
docker pull isopen/pgisvector:latest
docker run -d \
--name my_pgvector_db \
-e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=secret \
-p 5432:5432 \
isopen/pgisvector:latest
Replace secret with your preferred password.
Create Extensions
Inside the running container (or via psql from elsewhere) to ensure everything is going well:
CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS postgis;
CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS vector;
Check Health
Docker automatically runs a health check (pg_isready) to verify the container is ready.
Example Docker Compose
version: '3.8'
services:
pgvector_db:
image: isopen/pgisvector:latest
container_name: my_pgvector_db
environment:
- POSTGRES_PASSWORD=secret
ports:
- "5432:5432"
healthcheck:
test: ["CMD", "pg_isready", "-U", "postgres"]
interval: 30s
timeout: 5s
retries: 3
