janakan/docker-remote repository overview

This docker image provides remote HTTP access to the Docker API, with basic authorization. Quick start:

docker service create \
--mode global \
--constraint 'node.role == manager' \
--mount type=bind,source=/var/run/docker.sock,destination=/var/run/docker.sock \
--publish 9090:9090 \
--env PASSWORD=somebasicauthpassword \
--name remote-api \
--label updated=1236 \
janakan/docker-remote

In the example above:

  • mode is set to global so it runs once on each manager node
  • constraint is set to node.role == manager, so it only runs on manager nodes (not worker nodes)
  • mount grants the container access to the underlying docker API
  • publish specifies that the container's internal port 9090 should be bound externally
  • env PASSWORD specifies the password to be used for authorization. The username is always 'admin'
  • name (optional) specifies the name to run the service under
  • label (optional) you can set this to a random number to force docker to get the latest image
