Historically, this tool was designed as a portable software unit to reduce the learning curve for climate scientists by providing a pre-configured, lightweight execution environment for building, and running MITgcm models.

Because this image is archived, users should be aware of the following:

1. No Active Support: Feedback from project collaborators is no longer being incorporated into the design requirements.

2. Stability: While originally intended for stable release in the MITgcm-ECCO ecosystem, this specific image was never fully developed.

3. Production Risk: Do not use this environment for mission-critical simulations or production-level climate modeling.
